Our Open Days in 2010 are June 5th and 6th and are occurring at the same time as the West Chiltington Village celebrations - known as Vilfest- so there will be much to see and do that weekend in our village and we hope to make the event even bigger and better than the last one! Do come we would love to see you.
Our two Open Days in June 2009 proved to be a huge success which was a relief as it was the very first time we had done such a thing. All our valiant volunteers worked flat out to make sure the days passed off without incident. The weather in spite of a bad forecast stayed fair and about one thousand two hundred people came.
Our friends too really supported us: Kate O'Mara drove 4 hours from her home in Somerset to be with us, Franck LePrince, Graham Dudding and Patricia Bonnelli (our Palm Court Trio) drove all the way from Poole. Ed Stewart, Lorraine Chase and Peter Egan came from London especially and other friends came from Portsmouth to help sort out the traffic in our narrow lanes. Caricatures, face painting, tombolas, raffles, memorabilia, photos with the celebrities, a lovely plant stall, adoptions, a silent auction, delicious home made cakes, lovely music, a Blessing of the animals by the Reverend Derek Spencer, and the ABC Friends' marquee with its abundant supply of Pimms- hopefully a good time was had by all and we certainly enjoyed it!
However the real purpose of the weekend was to earn money to pay some of the major sanctuary bills - which we achieved, but vets bills and feed bills are ongoing so we will be having more fund raising events in the future.
