Mickey came to us when his companion died. He was very unhappy and desperately needed the company of others so we were asked to take him on. He has problems with a cleft right front hoof but if it is cut back correctly by the farrier he is able to walk perfectly normally.
Animals can really grieve and we have witnessed it often. It is important to try and get them out of it and to introduce a new companion as they can actually pine away and die themselves, sometimes in as little as two months, Their friendships are important which is why we try to re-home animals in pairs with their particular friends. His particular friends now are Cleo and Charlie, two of the other Shetland ponies.
